In this Coffee at 10 presentation, Susan Glass will talk about her painting practice.

Susan is a plein air watercolor painter and teacher who paints to connect and pay attention to the world around her. Whether in the the woods, on the beach, at the Harbor Springs Farmers Market, or observing a floral still life, she seeks to convey the energy in the natural world and an enjoyment in a sense of place. Watercolor is her preferred medium as a way to be both precise and surprising. Being in the moment, looking beyond the photographic, she uses expressionistic brushstrokes, like musical beats, that become a rhythmic language to celebrate the seasons along the Northern shores of Lake Michigan.

Originally from the Detroit area, Susan received an M.A. in Painting from Wayne State University, after earning a B.A. in English at the University of Michigan. She moved full-time to Northern Michigan, after spending many summers in Good Hart, where her work continues to be shown, in season, at Primitive Images in downtown Good Hart. She taught Basic Drawing and Life Drawing classes at North Central Michigan College for many years and continues teaching private “Plein air” classes in the summer. Her work has been in numerous exhibitions and is represented in many private collections in the Detroit area and Northern Michigan. At the Crooked Tree Art Center, her exhibitions include many Juried Fine Arts Exhibits and the “Color” exhibition of North Central Michigan College Arts faculty in Petoskey, and the small group show “Passionate Reality” in Traverse City.

Susan's work is included in CTAC's annual juried fine art show, Fields of Vision

Immediately following this Coffee @ 10 lecture, CTAC Visual Arts Director Liz Erlewine will be providing an exhibition walkthrough of Fields of Vision: Juried Fine Art Exhibition for the in-person audience. Hear about what goes into selecting artwork, artists, and exhibitions for Crooked Tree Arts Center's gallery spaces, as well as background and contextual information for appreciating the work.

As always, complimentary pastries and coffee are provided with support from Roast and Toast for our in-person audience.
