Description

This drop-in Figure Studio is ideal for figurative artists and those looking to improve or maintain observational drawing and painting skills. 

Each week, artists will can take advantage of three hours of studio time, working from a live clothed model. Artists bring art materials of their choosing, and are welcome to draw, paint, or work with other art media during each session.

The model will hold a pose for the full three-hour session, allowing artists the opportunity to more fully develop a painting or drawing. There is no instructor or instruction provided for this session. It is a facilitated open studio experience for those looking to paint or draw the figure. Register at the front desk prior to the session.

Robert Scudder

Robert Scudder is originally from Detroit and has lived in Petoskey for 53 years. He considers himself a mostly self-taught painter and credits two high school art teachers for encouraging him to pursue a career in painting. Although his passion was on the back burner as he raised a family and owned an outdoor advertising business for forty years, he is thrilled to spend his retirement devoting his days to some aspect of his art – whether it’s painting, teaching, taking workshops, drawing, or doing research.
 
And he conveys this through his clean, minimalist style. He has found that oil colors offer a deep richness that other mediums do not. Thus, he has focused his efforts on this medium alone. He aims to generate works, “without a lot of unneeded information. I usually eliminate a lot of peripheral information from the composition.” Over time, Robert has come to realize that, “Painting is more about observation than being able to put paint on a canvas. Yes, we need to know the technical aspects to paint, but observing and ‘seeing’ the subject is paramount.” 

Cancellation & Class Policies

Cancellation Policy for Petoskey Classes (In-Person)

Student Withdrawal
Requests for cancellation by the student at least seven (7) days prior to the first day of class will be honored (minus a $20 processing fee).  NO REFUNDS will be given for a student cancellation made less than seven (7) days in advance of the first day of the class.

Class Cancellations (Weather)
When Public Schools of Petoskey are closed due to inclement weather, CTAC-Petoskey classes are canceled. We will do our best to provide a make-up opportunity for the missed class. Refunds will not be given if the student is unable to attend the rescheduled session of class. Workshops and one-time classes will be handled on a per-class basis. School of Ballet students are asked to make up the missed class in an alternate session approved by their instructor.

Student Absence
We are unable to offer refunds or make-up sessions for classes missed due to student absence.

Minimum Enrollment
Crooked Tree Arts Center reserves the right to cancel any class that does not meet its minimum student enrollment prior to the first class session. If a class is cancelled by CTAC for lack of enrollment, CTAC will offer a full refund to the student in the manner in which tuition was paid. (Cash payments will be refunded by check.)
