DESCRIPTION

Make your own custom ring in this one-day workshop with metalsmith Leon Nash.

In this workshop, you will be introduced to the tools and materials used in jewelry making, such as torches, ring mandrels, jeweler's saws, files, burnishers, bezel setting tools, rockers, pickle, and patina.

You will learn basic soldering and fabrication techniques using a torch. 

Students will have their choice from a selection of stones and cabochons.
 
This workshop takes place at North Central Michigan College.

NOTE: A supply fee for the cost of materials used will apply. The fee will be paid directly to the instructor.

SKILL LEVEL & PREREQUISITES

This class is ideal for beginners. Those with some prior metalwork experience will also grow in skill and artistry.

Leon Nash is a Northern Michigan-based artist. He received his undergraduate degree in sculpture from Northern Michigan University and his master’s degree in metals/jewelry from Arizona State University. He has been formally creating three-dimensional artworks for the past 15 years. Primarily, Leon uses ferrous and non-ferrous metal materials, but will use anything that best fits the needs of his concepts. Other materials may include: found object, wood, plastic or glass. In some of his latest work his visual concepts are driven from the language of wayfinding, which he uses as a metaphor for individuals who are in a transient stage in their lives. Naturally because of this inspiration arrows are a common theme throughout his work. 

Leon Nash currently teaches studio art and design classes for North Central Michigan College. His warm, approachable demeanor and expertise in his craft make his classes fun and inspiring for all skill levels.

Cancellation Policy for Multi-Day, Sequential-Day Adult Workshops

Cancellation
Crooked Tree Arts Center reserves the right to cancel any multi-day, sequential-day workshop that does not meet its minimum student enrollment 30 days prior to the first workshop session. If a workshop is cancelled by CTAC for lack of enrollment, CTAC will offer a full refund to the student in the manner in which tuition was paid. (Cash payments will be refunded by check.)

Student Withdrawal
Requests for cancellation by the student at least sixty (60) days prior to the first day of the workshop will be honored (minus a $20 processing fee).  Requests for cancellation by the student between thirty (30) and fifty-nine (59) days prior to the first day of the workshop will receive a 50% tuition refund . NO REFUNDS will be given for a student cancellation made less than thirty (30) days prior to the first day of the workshop.
