Textiles in Context is an exhibition featuring the work of four visual artists—Shanna Robinson, Nancy McRay, Barbara Bushey, and Sarah Bearup-Neal—who explore the expressive potential of fiber. The exhibit highlights the dynamic range of ideas fiber can convey and celebrates the material’s rich physical presence.
Textiles are a familiar part of daily life, often associated with comfort, decoration, and utility. Traditionally understood within domestic spaces, fiber has, since the 1960s, evolved into a medium embraced by studio artists. These artists have pushed its boundaries, reimagining its role through new forms, contexts, and conceptual frameworks. Textiles in Context reflects this shift, with each artist offering a distinct perspective on how fiber can be transformed into a powerful vehicle for artistic expression.
This exhibit runs from September 9 - October 11, with an opening reception on Friday, September 12, from 5-7pm, and then an Artist Talk on Saturday, September 13, from 11am-12pm.
