Trisha Witty: Pilgrimages in Paint, A Retrospective 1988 to Present (Opens May 25)

Harbor Springs artist Trisha Witty has developed her self-taught talent for over 35 years. Her career has taken her to all parts of the world, and hundreds of her paintings have been displayed across the nation and belong in public and private collections throughout the world.

Witty began her career at a young age, selling her first oil at age 15, and opening her own exclusive gallery at age 19. Trisha balanced painting, running a business, and attending the University of Michigan until graduating with three liberal arts degrees in 1995. After college, Trisha began traveling extensively abroad, and spent three years in Miami Beach, working out of her SoBe studio in the winter, while running another gallery in Naples, Florida. The majority of Witty's work concentrated on her travels to the Caribbean and Southern Florida landscapes. 

After her years spent in Florida, Witty continued to challenge herself with new landscapes. She began exploring the California coastline, where she painted during the winter months. Trisha has painted California's mountains, vineyards, deserts, and beaches. Through her travels and experiences, Witty has not only captured the beauty and color of her subject matter, she has absorbed the culture, arts, and essence of each community she resides in and travels to. In 2008, Trisha had the opportunity to go to the Middle East and paint in Dubai, Jordan, and Damascus, Syria. She found most of her inspiration to be from the old historic areas of Mt. Nebo at the Dead Sea and in the Old City of Damascus. Three of the paintings from that trip now hang in a beautiful Jordanian home in Amman. Sadly, many of the subjects she painted in Syria have now been destroyed. She is thankful that she got to experience such a place and has captured history on canvas.
