Join us for a live painting demo with David Orrin Smith, a talented multidisciplinary artist whose work blends classical training with a passion for plein air performance.
David will demo outside next to Crooked Tree Arts Center – Traverse City
(If the weather turns, we’ll move indoors.)
David has been drawing and painting since childhood, with early mentorship under renowned artists Gary Faigin and Tony Ryder. His foundation in figure drawing began at age 13 at the Seattle Academy of Fine Art (now Gage), and he continued developing his practice through studies at Dartmouth and Harvard. Today, his work spans plein air watercolor landscapes, graphite portraiture, oil still lifes, and more.
Now based in Seattle, David travels across the country participating in plein air festivals, where he views the act of painting as a form of public and performance art—connecting people to place through the immediacy and presence of live creation.
This event is free and open to the public. Come experience David’s thoughtful approach to artmaking!
