Description

Explore an entirely different way to approach a painting: No subject. Non-objectivism leaves the final result entirely open to interpretation - but only YOU, the artist, know your real intentions, mood, and approach behind the masterpiece!

Using professional artist-grade Nova Colors acrylics preferred by artist Debbie Lamson, students will explore mark making, collage, and acrylic application to enrich the surface of specialty 22" x 30" watercolor paper. Plan to create a total of two or three paintings. This class is perfect for experimentation and using non-traditional techniques. There will be demonstrations, color theory and individual attention will be mixed in with time for experimentation and non-traditional expression.

  • SOME MATERIALS REQUIRED: Please see the Supply List link for the list.
  • Additional $15 Materials Fee: Payable directly to the instructor. Cash and Venmo accepted. The fee includes two 22" x 30" sheets of watercolor paper and the use of the instructor's other items. Additional sheets may be purchased from the instructor for an additional $7/sheet.
  • There will be a 1/2 hour break for lunch - bringing a packed lunch is recommended.

Debbie Lamson

Debbie Lamson and her husband, David reside in Kewadin and Farmington Hills. Debbie’s career began in accounting in the Detroit metro area until her daughter was born then left the business world. Once her three kids became independent, she returned to college for an art education degree. Teaching in a gifted and talented arts school in Ann Arbor, Debbie was encouraged to continue her artwork since the school saw the value of students observing working artists.

In 2016 Debbie left teaching to focus on a life long dream as a full time artist. This chapter of her life has been enormously enjoyable, although not always ideal. Working in a dimly lit basement, dining room table, a vacant bedroom and a barn with no heat, air conditioning, or running water and shared with mice and red squirrels. Once Debbie moved from the Leelanau Peninsula to Kewadin, to a studio with utilities and no bushy tailed companions, her artwork flourished.

As one who sees the value of lifelong learning, I believe that the Crooked Tree Art Center is ideal for providing numerous opportunities for the community to learn, observe, and thrive in the arts. As the art world continues to grow in northern Michigan, I'm looking forward to working with CTAC-Traverse City.

Cancellation & Class Policies

Cancellation Policy for Traverse City Classes (In-Person)

Student Withdrawal
Requests for cancellation by the student at least seven (7) days prior to the first day of class will be honored (minus a $20 processing fee).  NO REFUNDS will be given for a student cancellation made less than seven (7) days in advance of the first day of the class.

Class Cancellations (Weather)
In the event of inclement weather, CTAC-TC will announce the cancellation on its website and phone system (231-941-9488). We will do our best to provide a make-up opportunity for the missed class. Refunds will not be given if the student is unable to attend the rescheduled session of class. Please note that CTAC-TC does not follow Traverse City Area Public School closings.

Student Absence
We are unable to offer refunds or make-up sessions for classes missed due to student absence.

Minimum Enrollment
Crooked Tree Arts Center reserves the right to cancel any class that does not meet its minimum student enrollment prior to the first class session. If a class is cancelled by CTAC for lack of enrollment, CTAC will offer a full refund to the student in the manner in which tuition was paid. (Cash payments will be refunded by check.)
