"Painting with watercolor is so haarrrd!” We hear it all the time. Even some experienced painters of oil and acrylics shy away from watercolor because of the complexity of painting with this medium.
There is no denying watercolors are free-spirited and maybe even a little bit mischievous but, that is what makes them so interesting! This series of six demonstrations is designed to convince artists that painting in watercolor is fun!
January Theme: Sketchbooks
Keeping a sketchbook is a good way to work out painting ideas, colors, formats, etc.
In this demo I will show how I create sketchbooks that are useful and fun.
The 2022 series will be similar to last year. For those that participated last year, Steve is always including new nuggets of information and suggestions!
You will be emailed Zoom meeting instructions at least 1 day before the start of the class. This email will include a unique URL and your meeting code.
Classes/Workshops/Demos that do not meet enrollment minimums will be cancelled two days prior to the class start date.
Monthly schedule (register each month)
February 12 - Planning with Values
In this demonstration I will show how to use wet-on-wet painting techniques to achieve different effects.
March 12 - Sketching Fast and Loose
This demonstration will show how I gather information through quick sketches that I later use in finished paintings.
April 9 - Studio Painting
Utilizing sketchbooks, quick sketches, and motivating music, I will demonstrate a studio painting, start-to-finish.
May 14- Adding Figures to Paintings
This demonstration will be devoted to how I add figures to my cityscape and waterscape paintings. (We wrote an article about this for the Summer 2020 Issue of The Artist, that people will be able to access from our website if they wish.)
June 11- Using Color in Unexpected Ways
I will demonstrate how I used colors that differ from what is in the actual scene I’m painting or from what we would normally expect.
