Choreographer Robin Pettersen restages original work for CTAC School of Ballet’s Fall for Dance

Fall for Dance, Crooked Tree Arts Center (CTAC) School of Ballet’s 18th annual fall production takes place on Saturday, November 2 at 7:00 pm at the Harbor Springs Performing Arts Center.

In addition to mentored student work and guest choreography by Peter Sparling and Christopher D’Ariano, this year’s Fall for Dance performance will feature Pas de Trois, a work choreographed by guest choreographer, Robin Pettersen, which she originally premiered at Fall for Dance ten years ago.

Pettersen, who is a long-time friend and collaborator with the CTAC School of Ballet, has historically choreographed work on the School’s dancers to then restage on her students at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Now a faculty emeritus with the University, Pettersen has held an annual residency with the School of Ballet for the past two years. Last year’s fall performance featured two of Pettersen’s choreographic works originally set on college students, lasciato solo: left alone and Huh?. Pettersen returns to the CTAC School of Ballet for the third year in a row this fall to restage Pas de Trois.

Pas de Trois is a bit of a poke, literally, at our traditional sense of ballet,” says choreographer Robin Pettersen. “The steps come from the classical ballet vocabulary, with separate odd occurrences sprinkled on top. I am so pleased to work with this lovely trio of dancers, resetting the piece which I created here a decade ago!”

The dancers in Pas de Trois have had the opportunity to watch videos of the School of Ballet alums in the original version of Pas de Trois from ten years ago to learn the choreography and pick up the intricate details in Pettersen’s movement.

“Working with Robin has been an incredibly rewarding experience,” says CTAC School of Ballet dancer Colette McLeod. “I love how detail oriented she is, because it makes every work she creates as perfect as it can be.”

Proceeds from Fall for Dance directly support the CTAC School of Ballet dance scholarship fund. Tickets can be purchased at Crooked Tree Arts Center, by phone at (231) 347-4337, or online at crookedtree.org. Tickets are $25 for adults, $5 for students, and $50 for reserved seating.
