In August 2018, Crooked Tree Arts Center will host Paint Grand Traverse, a six day plein air painting festival featuring top artists from across the country. The inaugural event will take place August 13-18, 2018.
The week will include a variety of events for spectators, artists, art buyers, kids, and families. A complete schedule can be found on the Paint Grand Traverse website.
The Grand Traverse region is located in northwest lower Michigan, and is known the world over for its gorgeous scenery, hundreds of miles of Lake Michigan coast, and historic small towns and villages. The largest of these, Traverse City, is nestled on the southern shore of West Grand Traverse Bay, and is home to Crooked Tree Arts Center - Traverse City.
WHAT IS PLEIN AIR PAINTING?
From the French en plein air, or "in open air", plein air artists work outside, in natural lighting conditions, capturing the ephemeral atmospheric and lighting conditions.
WHO ARE THE ARTISTS?
For this inaugural event, 45 national-caliber artists will participate and compete in our masters competition for major cash awards. Meet the artists.
On Wednesday, August 15, we will hold a quick draw competition, open to all interested artist by pre-registration.
