    DESCRIPTION

Introducing this new workshop in oil by artist Douglas David!

Fun and informative, this workshop will cover the basic principles of oil painting and get you painting simple and easy-to-understand objects in a short time.

In this workshop, you will get comfortable with the process of painting while learning to paint dynamic and exciting paintings. We will discuss the basic elements of painting including composition, massing, building form, light and shadow, and – depending on your own style – knowing when a work is finished (learning how to not overwork your painting).

Douglas delivers sound principles of painting that are an incredible foundation for your painting, whether you have never picked up a brush, are a relatively new painter, or are a more accomplished painter looking to review the fundamentals.

    What to Expect
After a brief morning intro, students will learn how to set up their palette and Douglas will begin with a demonstration. Students will work in their own style/technique so that the finished work is their own. We will paint simple still lifes (usually including items like apples, eggs, and really common and fun things like donuts!). We will also work on landscapes from photographs. Plan to produce a few small paintings and possibly one larger painting. Plan to bring a sketchbook or notebook.

This class is for all learners. There is nothing to be afraid or self-conscious about – Douglas will get you through all the tricky parts and you will have fun!
