Through a combination of symbolic, illustrative, and figurative imagery, midwest artists Esteban Garcia, Nick Martin, and Aaron Nemec create abstract narratives that verge on the surreal.
Several years ago, the trio worked closely together, often collaborating on mixed media projects and installations while pursuing their graduate degrees from Purdue University. Now, nearly 15 years later, Garcia, Martin, and Nemec still inspire one another creatively while maintaining individual creative practices. This exhibition features recent work by each artist, revealing unique perspectives and approaches with a common base aesthetic. Like the title suggests, the shared aesthetic is raw and DIY, but not without a heavy dose of playful escapism.
