    IMMERSED

    Join us from May 22 through August 31 for an immersive exhibition exploring aesthetic, cultural, environmental, and historical dimensions of water- through art, artifacts, sound, and motion. Immersed is an art, natural science, and cultural exhibition designed to cultivate greater enjoyment, appreciation, understanding, and stewardship of our extraordinary, local waterways. The exhibit brings together art, design, and artifacts that explore the depths and dimensions of life in, on, and inspired by water, in an imaginative and immersive installation.

    LTBB Odawak Nme (Lake Sturgeon) Teachings Curriculum. Amanda will talk about the significance of Lake Sturgeon to Odawa and our ecosystems, and how LTBB is bringing this knowledge into classrooms.

    May 29 — Greg Walz,  National Leadership Council Representative, Michigan Trout Unlimited

    Abundance, Despoliation, and Renewal: A Personal Perspective on the Rise of the Cold Water Conservation Ethos in Michigan. Greg Walz, a cultural resource management archaeologist, will talk about native cold water fish communities and Trout Unlimited’s role in conservation efforts in Michigan. 

    June 5 — Scott Smith, Independent Scuba Diver and Photographer

    Scuba Diving the Tip of the Mitt. Join scuba diver and photographer, Scott Smith on a journey beneath the surfaces of lakes and rivers in Northern Michigan. 

    June 12 — Beth Wemigwase, Program Coordinator | Curator, Harbor Springs Area Historical Society

    Putting the "Spring" in Harbor "Springs". Beth will talk about Ephraim Shay’s role in the creating the first water works system in Harbor Springs, and how it connected to the natural history and geology of the area. 

    June 19 - Dr. Elizabeth Fergus Jean

    Into the Depths. Dr. Fergus Jean will offer an overview of the themes and content that she will explore in greater depth in her summer workshop series focusing on archetypes, myths, and dreams.

    June 26 - Dr. Andrea Miehls, Great Lakes Fishery Commission Communications Associate 

    Great Lakes Sea Lampreys: From Crisis to Control.  Dr. Miehls will talk about one of the most notorious creatures in the Great Lakes—the sea lamprey. All attendees will have an opportunity to meet—and even hold—these vampire fish of the Great Lakes!


    July 3 - Megan DeWindt, Executive Director & Elizabeth Nelson, Bay View Archivist

    Bay View Association: An American Idea.  What if you could step into a living story—where Victorian charm meets modern inspiration on the shores of Lake Michigan? This presentation @will showcase Bay View’s remarkable history, its ongoing impact, and the exciting opportunities ahead- during our 150th Jubilee. 

    July 17 - Tom Renkes, Author

    Life on Superior: a 1,000 Mile Kayak Solo. Come paddle the tempestuous waters of the greatest of the Great Lakes. Try doing it alone in a kayak! Feel the voyage and experience the vicissitudes of the days as you travel along. Bring a lifejacket.

    July 24 - Ann Baughman, Associate Director at Freshwater Future

    Great Lakes and Climate Change–What does it mean for Northern Michigan? What does the future hold for our beloved Great Lakes and northern Michigan? Ann Baughman, Associate Director of Freshwater Future, will share information from climate change models, and discuss likely trends for northern Michigan and how we can best prepare and adapt.

    July 31 -  Lad Hanka, Artist

    Visions of a Wandering Naturalist, Artist & Occasional Fisherman. Lad will talk about his drawings and etchings of Great Lakes fish that are on view in the exhibition. 

    August 7 - Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer, Author

    A Conversation with Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer, Author of Braiding Sweetgrass. Join us for this unique opportunity to participate in a moderated conversation with Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer, a plant ecologist, educator, and writer that articulates a vision of environmental stewardship grounded in scientific and Indigenous knowledge

    August 14 -  Senghor Reid, Artist in Residence at Good Hart

    Art of Self. Senghor will discuss the importance of self-portraiture in his artistic practice. Artists yield to their own personal growth when they engage in healthy self-reflection and evaluation through their art. 

    August 21 - Bruce Lynn, Executive Director at Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum 

    Gales of August: The Sinking of the Western Reserve. Learn about the dramatic story of the Western Reserve, an all-steel freighter that sank northwest of Whitefish Point, in Lake Superior.  

    August 28 - Erika Van Dam, Vice President. Jeremy Pearson, Head of Sales

    The History And Process Of Creating The World's Finest Wooden Boats

    Erica and Jeremy will talk about the history of Van Dam Custom Boats, the processes  of creating, designing, and building one of the world's finest wooden boats, and how the company has evolved over time.
