    ABOUT THE ARTIST:

My name is Vicki Lynn, the eldest of the white feather daughters. I was born in Petoskey, Michigan and spent most of my life on the shores of Lake Michigan. I am a wife, mother of four children, and grandmother of seven. Mom grew up in an era when the believed it was better for everyone not to know certain things about culture and language. They didn't speak the language, so my connection to being native came later in life, after our tribe, the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians was re-affirmed as a sovereign nation. My creativity and artistic pursuits have always been varied. I studied art at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan, and early outlets for my art were the standard drawing, painting, and wood burning. After the re-affirmation of our tribe, my art took on a new dimension. I am now an artisan that believes in the utilization of natural resources at hand and I am a strong supporter of regional resourcing. My creativity is strongly influence by the season and availability of supplies. I specialize in the creation of primitive dream catchers, hand drums, and shakers. I also enjoy bead work and working with furs, leather, sweet grass, and birch bark.
