This summer, CTAC is hosting Henry Horenstein's, Honky Tonk, a photography exhibition that captures the performers, venues, and fans of 1970s and 1980s country music. Horenstein began photographing this musical movement at a time when he saw the world of country music changing. In this Coffee @ 10 presentation, music writer Stephen Thomas Erlewine will take us through this transformative time in country music, providing historical context and influences for the genre, as well as a look at Honky Tonk music today.
Stephen Thomas Erlewine is a Senior Editor at Xperi, whose database of music information is licensed throughout the internet—customers include Spotify, Apple Music, SiriusXM, Tidal and IHeartMedia—and can be easily accessed at Allmusic.com. Over the past three decades, Erlewine has written thousands of record reviews and biographies. He's also contributed to Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Billboard, Los Angeles, Spin and New York Magazine's Vulture, and has written liner notes for Vinyl Me Please, Craft Records and Sony Legacy. Erlewine attended college at the University of Michigan, where he majored in English.
