    Artist Delita Martin
An internationally known artist appearing in several publications, Delita Martin’s work has appeared on book covers and in mainstream movies. She has exhibited in nineteen solo shows and participated in over twenty group exhibitions, nationally and internationally. Her love for collaboration, and passion to continuously elevate her work, has taken her abroad, working with artists to share and create new techniques. Most recently, Martin’s work was included in the State of the Arts: Discovering American Art Now, an exhibition that included 101 artists from around the United States. She was also included in the 2015 International Review of African-American Art as one of 16 African-American artists to watch.

Delita Martin discovered her love for creating stories with drawings at the young age of five. As an adult, she pursued this creative passion, receiving her BFA in Drawing from Texas Southern University and her MFA in Printmaking from Purdue University. A former member of the fine arts faculty at the University of Arkansas, she currently works as a full-time artist in her studio, Black Box Press, in Huffman, Texas. She is a printmaker who utilizes a multitude of mediums and layering techniques, exploring the power of narrative.

In her creative portraits, Martin layers various printmaking, drawing, sewing, collaging, and painting techniques to fuse the real and fantastic. Her visual language combines signs and symbols that powerfully capture the identity, spirit, and narratives of women of color. She often looks to vintage and family photographs as a source of inspiration. Each work uniquely speaks to the complexity of spirit, race, gender, beauty, and in some ways, deals with empowering transformations and captivating and commanding attention.
