In this class, each week we will look at the life and art of a different artist. We will learn how they worked and what their influences were. After studying the artists by reviewing many examples of their work we will paint our own landscape paintings from our own reference photos in the style of the master of the day. By looking into this special work that has gone before we will see new possibilities for our own art. Plus we will look at our world through new eyes.
Each week prior to the class period you will be given a suggestion as to what sort of reference photo you should bring to paint from.
iPads or similar devices have proven to be good for painting reference. Phones will work, but are probably a little small. Printing out the image may seem almost old fashion now, but it is still one of the best solutions.
Artists we will be studying: Claude Monet, Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Cézanne, William Turner.
