Beach Stone Ring
Description

Join local artist Janet Ryan in this fun silver smithing workshop open to students of all skill levels. Create a sterling silver ring with a Lake Michigan beach stone or cabochon. Students withh prior silver smithing experience will be encouraged to add texture and expland your skill set.  

Students will learn the basic skills in design, bezel making, soldering and stone setting.  Makes a great gift for you or someone else.

Materials Fee payable to instructor $15-$25

Class size is limited to ensure students are not sharing tools/equipment unless from the same household.

 

Student Precautions and Protocols

  • All students must maintain a 6-foot distance between non-household individuals when possible.

  • Masks must be kept on at all times while inside our building.  

  • Students will not share equipment unless from the same household.

  • Water fountains will no longer be available for use. Please be sure to bring your own water!

  • CTAC restrooms are open for students and staff.

Janet grew up in Columbus Ohio spending summers in Leelanau at her grandparents cottage on Lake Leelanau. Her grandfather was a manual arts teacher in Cincinnati and her mother was an artistic Kindergarten teacher. She grew up with art projects and summer rock collecting.  She attended Lake Forest College, where she took her first silver jewelry construction workshop taught by students in a dorm basement.  After graduating with a major in Mathematics and Physics she began a 38 year career in Information Technology.  In 2004, while living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, she began re-exploring her interest in Jewelry by creating space for a jewelers bench in her basement and investing in books and tools. Her friend, Barbi Goldsmith influenced her artistic aspirations and helped with her studio setup. She also started taking classes in Jewelry Construction at the Milwaukee Area Technical School and making jewelry for herself and friends. She continued her jewelry education with classes at the annual Bead & Button Show in Milwaukee and by continuing classes at the technical school. In 2016 she retired, and moved to Cedar near Sugar Loaf Mountain in August 2017.  She now creates and sells jewelry at local artists markets and art shows and teaches jewelry classes. 

Cancellation & Class Policies

Cancellation Policy for Traverse City Classes (In-Person)

Student Withdrawal
Requests for cancellation by the student at least seven (7) days prior to the first day of class will be honored (minus a $20 processing fee).  NO REFUNDS will be given for a student cancellation made less than seven (7) days in advance of the first day of the class.

Class Cancellations (Weather)
In the event of inclement weather, CTAC-TC will announce the cancellation on its website and phone system (231-941-9488). We will do our best to provide a make-up opportunity for the missed class. Refunds will not be given if the student is unable to attend the rescheduled session of class. Please note that CTAC-TC does not follow Traverse City Area Public School closings.

Student Absence
We are unable to offer refunds or make-up sessions for classes missed due to student absence.

Minimum Enrollment
Crooked Tree Arts Center reserves the right to cancel any class that does not meet its minimum student enrollment prior to the first class session. If a class is cancelled by CTAC for lack of enrollment, CTAC will offer a full refund to the student in the manner in which tuition was paid. (Cash payments will be refunded by check.)
