This class is Part 1 of 3: BASICS

Designed JUST for newbies, learn all the foundational skills you need so you can begin painting with watercolor! Absolutely no experience required. Artist and illustrator Jan Oliver will introduce a variety of tools and techniques in a welcoming, comfortable small group setting with plenty of time for individual practice and one-on-one guidance. By the end of this series, you will:

    • Learn how to recognize different types of paintbrushes, their uses, and how to choose the right shapes and bristles to achieve the look you want
    • Know the difference between hot press and cold press watercolor paper, other painting surfaces, and how to choose the ideal quality surface for your project
    • Identify different types of watercolor paints, how to mix colors, how to apply and layer watercolor to achieve different effects
    • Experience what you can do with watercolor, what to avoid, and how to fix mistakes
    • Use all of your new skills and knowledge to paint your own sunset

    Please Note:

    • Bring a photo of a sunset you would like to paint (optional - you can also do this from available photos or your imagination!)
    • Wear an apron and/or clothes that don't mind paint stains.
    • All materials are included. In case you wish to bring your own, see the link for Janet's list of recommended but optional supplies.
