    Description

    1 session: Tuesday, Feb. 18th, 1 p.m – 3:30 p.m.
    Adults / Ages 16+

Designed for newbies, learn foundational tips so you can begin to paint with watercolor! Register for one or all classes in this series:

    • Having Fun with Watercolors Part 1 of 3: BASICS (No experience required.)
    • Having Fun with Watercolors Part 2 of 3: COLOR (Prerequisite: The "Basics" class or previous watercolor experience.)
    • Having Fun with Watercolors Part 3 of 3: PERSPECTIVE (Prerequisite: The "Basics" class or previous watercolor experience.)

This class is Part 3 of 3: Achieving the Right Perspective

We see in 3-dimensions—width, height and depth—but painting is normally only 2-dimensional—width and height. Therefore, it is important to learn strategies to create the illusion of depth and space. This is achieved though techniques for creating linear and atmospheric perspectives. Instructor and artist Jan Oliver with guide you in learning how the use of texture/detail, value, clarity, saturation and color temperature impacts atmospheric perspective. Plus, you will see how the use of 1- and 2-point perspective applications helps create depth. You will create at least one small landscape utilizing the techniques learned.

    PLEASE NOTE:

    • BRING at least 2 photos that include (1) at least one building that shows two sides (i.e., front and side of a building) and (2) a landscape where you see a lot of depth (i.e., trees or hills in the background with tree(s) and/or bushes or grasses in the foreground).
    • Prerequisite: Before taking this class, previous watercolor experience is required.
    • Wear an apron and/or clothes that don't mind paint stains.
    • All materials are included. In case you wish to bring your own, see the Supply List link for Janet's recommended but optional supplies.
