Description

Drawing is at the core of everything that we do as visual artists. Drawing often is its own thing, and the means to its own end. It is always an important step in creating other work such as paintings, sculpture, and even installations. Also is an endless amount that we can learn about our world and the people around us by simply drawing.

In this class we will explore the different reasons we draw and discover some new ones. We will look at the many ways that we can make marks on our paper to express what we need to say about our subject. 

We will also check out some drawings of famous artists that have gone before us and try our hand at some different drawing mediums.

This class is designed for the artist that wants to find out what we can learn when we really look and start to push our limits.

The fee includes all materials and a clothed figure model for one of the sessions.

 

Please read the policy for classes cancelled due to inclement weather.  If needed a makeup session will be schedule for February 17.

Royce Deans was born of parents that understood the important role that art plays in society and how crucial exposure to and participation is to the development of a young person. He was raised in the western suburbs of Chicago with access to museums and concert halls of every variety. Graduating from the American Academy of Art in Chicago gave him the foundation to build a life in the arts.

“Moving to Traverse City some four decades ago set his art on a wonderful trajectory. He counts each artistic endeavor as a rich experience that has shaped him into the artist he is today. Northern Michigan is such an incredibly beautiful place, the landscape has, of course, become an overwhelming source of inspiration.

Royce’s love for teaching and art has allowed him to travel far and wide. His artwork is in collections public and private in the US and in many of the countries of Western Europe, Israel. Highlights of his travels have been presenting classes, workshops, and retreats.

 

Cancellation & Class Policies

COVID-19 Policy for Classes (until 03/31/22)

Crooked Tree Arts Center has implemented policies to control the spread of Covid-19 students, staff, and instructors safe. Please note the following policies regarding illness, face coverings, social distancing, room capacity, and sanitation. The following policies are in place for classes beginning before March 31, 2022:

Face Coverings (updated 2/22/22)
Face masks are required for all CTAC classes that begin before March 31, 2022, regardless of vaccination status.

Illness
Students who are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or who have recently tested positive should not come to class, and should follow the CDC guidelines on quarantining and masking.

Symptoms of Covid-19 include: Fever or chills; cough; shortness of breath or difficulty breathing; fatigue; muscle or body aches; headache; loss of taste or smell; sore throat; congestion or runny nose; nausea or vomiting; diarrhea.

Capacity
Class size will be limited to accommodate social distancing. Classroom setups will be arranged so that each student has 6 feet of working space.

Social Distancing
Students and teachers are expected to remain at least 6 feet apart whenever possible.

Sanitation
Students and instructors should sanitize their hands upon class arrival and departure. Hand sanitizer and surface disinfectant will be available onsite.

 

Cancellation Policy for Traverse City Classes (In-Person)

Student Withdrawal
Requests for cancellation by the student at least seven (7) days prior to the first day of class will be honored (minus a $20 processing fee).  NO REFUNDS will be given for a student cancellation made less than seven (7) days in advance of the first day of the class.

Class Cancellations (Weather)
In the event of inclement weather, CTAC-TC will announce the cancellation on its website and phone system (231-941-9488). We will do our best to provide a make-up opportunity for the missed class. Refunds will not be given if the student is unable to attend the rescheduled session of class. Please note that CTAC-TC does not follow Traverse City Area Public School closings.

Student Absence
We are unable to offer refunds or make-up sessions for classes missed due to student absence.

Minimum Enrollment
Crooked Tree Arts Center reserves the right to cancel any class that does not meet its minimum student enrollment prior to the first class session. If a class is cancelled by CTAC for lack of enrollment, CTAC will offer a full refund to the student in the manner in which tuition was paid. (Cash payments will be refunded by check.)
