Description

Bri Beck will lead a Disability Pride Pennant-Making activity. Each participant will design a custom pennant that reflects their unique embodiment and the message they want to share with the world. The pennants will be made entirely of felt, with pre-cut background shapes and a variety of pre-cut felt elements—including letters, symbols, icons, and even some designs inspired by anatomy and mobility aids. Participants will also have the option to draw and cut their own shapes or letters if they prefer. Once completed, the pennants will be strung together to form a community banner that can be displayed in your organization’s space.

This project is especially timely, as July is Disability Pride Month. The banner will serve as a vibrant celebration of the strength, resilience, and diversity of the disability community. My goal is to offer participants a creative way to express their individual pride while also seeing their contributions as part of a larger disability culture narrative.

This free workshop, offered in partnership with the Good Hart Residency, Challenge Mountain and Ann's Nest, will be inclusive and welcoming to all. There will be a range of accessible options to accommodate diverse needs.

Bri Beck, LCPC, ATR (she/her) is a Chicago-based mixed-media artist and licensed art therapist whose work explores how the body interacts with the environment and the impact of those interactions on emotional well-being. As someone living with a rare form of dwarfism, Bri creates art that examines how built spaces shape connection, tension, and accessibility, offering nuanced perspectives on identity and belonging.


In her art therapy practice, Bri focuses on supporting individuals within the disability community. Her specialties include addressing complex medical trauma, managing health-related anxiety, building self-esteem, fostering self-advocacy, and navigating the psychosocial dimensions of living with a disability. As a consultant, Bri trains therapists, educators, and healthcare providers disability-affirming and anti-ableist practices, helping to create more inclusive spaces. Bri is also a passionate community builder. She enjoys facilitating peer support groups, leading workshops, and mentoring emerging art therapists.


During the Elevating Diverse Voices Residency, Bri is excited to delve deeper into her personalart practice, reconnecting with her roots in graphic design. Through mixed media, she plans to experiment with pattern, color, text, and motif to tell vibrant new stories about the experience of disability embodiment. Bri looks forward to collaborating with the Good Hart community, helping them explore and share their own embodied narratives through visual storytelling.

 

Cancellation & Class Policies

Cancellation Policy for Petoskey Classes (In-Person)

Student Withdrawal
Requests for cancellation by the student at least seven (7) days prior to the first day of class will be honored (minus a $20 processing fee).  NO REFUNDS will be given for a student cancellation made less than seven (7) days in advance of the first day of the class.

Class Cancellations (Weather)
When Public Schools of Petoskey are closed due to inclement weather, CTAC-Petoskey classes are canceled. We will do our best to provide a make-up opportunity for the missed class. Refunds will not be given if the student is unable to attend the rescheduled session of class. Workshops and one-time classes will be handled on a per-class basis. School of Ballet students are asked to make up the missed class in an alternate session approved by their instructor.

Student Absence
We are unable to offer refunds or make-up sessions for classes missed due to student absence.

Minimum Enrollment
Crooked Tree Arts Center reserves the right to cancel any class that does not meet its minimum student enrollment prior to the first class session. If a class is cancelled by CTAC for lack of enrollment, CTAC will offer a full refund to the student in the manner in which tuition was paid. (Cash payments will be refunded by check.)
