Wednesdays from 10:00-10:30 AM
Our overarching theme for this session is “the movement of nature.” We’ll focus on similarities that nature has to the way we create movement.
Week 1: Shapes — Did you know that many of the shapes you see when you look outside is a shape that you can make with your body? This week we will investigate what movements can be straight like grass, curvy like leaves, and angular like trees using our ballet vocabulary.
Week 2: Rhythm — Many things in nature have their own rhythm— waves crashing on the beach, leaves rustling in the wind, even your heart beating. This week we will explore what types of rhythms we like to move to the most.
Week 3: Patterns — Have you ever looked at a leaf or pinecone up close to see its pattern? This week we will use visual patterns to help us create a patterned dance.
Basic Class Structure:
— Start w/ a ballet warm up, which will take about 10 minutes.
— Discuss the concept for the day, and do a short, improvisational activity. (10 minutes)
— Using ideas from improv, and movements from warm up, have them create something to show each other. (10 minutes)
Please note: This is an online class that will be taught via Zoom. Following registration, you will receive an email with Zoom meeting information.
