Colleen often travels and paints en plein air. Through painting in the landscape, she finds a stronger sense of the world we live in and a way to translate and soak up the surroundings she embodies. Colleen loves being outdoors and the excitement of trying to get a scene down before the light or weather shifts. Plein air paintings have become a record of her travels, adventures, and places she has lived.
Colleen attended the inaugural class of the South Carolina Governor’s School of the Arts and then earned her BFA in painting with a dual major in Art History from the Kansas City Art Institute. She completed her MFA in Studio Art in Dallas, Texas, at Southern Methodist University’s Meadows School of the Arts in 2011, after which she spent time becoming a new mother while living and painting in Southern California and in the Appalachian Mountains of Georgia. Her work is in private collections across the country. She was born in Northern Michigan and has recently moved back to the area.
