CTAC School of Ballet presents 18th annual Fall for Dance

HARBOR SPRINGS, Mich. — The Crooked Tree Arts Center (CTAC) School of Ballet will present its 18th annual Fall for Dance performance at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Harbor Springs Performing Arts Center.

Fall for Dance is a mixed-bill performance featuring both ballet and contemporary works, showcasing the stylistic range and creativity of the School’s pre-professional dancers.

This year’s program includes eight mentored student works, choreographed by the School’s pre-professional dancers under the guidance of guest artists Robin Pettersen, faculty emeritus at the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater, and Richard Walters, rehearsal director and school principal with Madison Ballet.

Choreographing original work for Fall for Dance gives pre-professional dancers the opportunity to develop their artistic voice, leadership, and communication skills.

Student choreographer Claire Miller said the experience has helped her “learn how to be patient, work on time management, and work with other dancers.”

Fellow student choreographer Sienna Stuchell added, “I’m grateful for the opportunity to make my choreographic vision come to life. It taught me how to communicate with my dancers in different ways so that each dancer would understand my vision.”

In addition to the student-created works, mentors Pettersen and Walters will each present original choreography. Walters created a new ballet, At the Center, during his summer residency at the School. Pettersen’s featured work, Here, was originally performed by professional dancers in Madison, Wisconsin, earlier this year. She has restaged and further developed the piece with the CTAC School of Ballet dancers throughout the fall.

Proceeds from Fall for Dance directly support the CTAC School of Ballet’s dance scholarship fund.

Tickets are available at Crooked Tree Arts Center, by phone at 231-347-4337, or online at crookedtree.org/ballet. Tickets are $25 for adults, $5 for students, and $50 for reserved seating.
