Patti Mollica delights in painting the world around her in a bold, confident style with hues that are vibrant, energetic, and contemporary. Her work is known for its fearless use of color and expressive brushwork, while still blending a delicate balance between impressionism, abstraction, and realism.
After studying illustration at Syracuse University, Patti later graduated from the highly acclaimed Portfolio Center in Atlanta, where she earned the Best Portfolio Award in Graphic Design and Illustration. The influence of an extensive graphic design background is apparent in the strong compositional quality of her art.
Patti is the author of four books: How to Paint Fast, Loose and Bold;Modern Acrylics;Color Theory for the Painte;, and Getting Started in Acrylics. She has also put together three instructional painting DVDs produced by F&W Media. Additionally, she is a Certified Teacher for Golden Paints and conducts workshops throughout the U.S. and abroad.
Best known for her urban landscapes, the city provides Patti with a seemingly limitless number of opportunities for indulging in coloristic playfulness, while still capturing an authentic sense of urban character and mood. “New York is an infinite visual playground, a spinning kaleidoscope of fluid, colored mosaics, always shape-shifting, always recreating itself. My goal as a painter is to reveal the inherent artistic essence of all subjects and scenes, especially those that are not commonly thought of in an artistic light.”
Patti’s work is included in several U.S. galleries as well as the private collections of American Express, Sheraton Hotels, CBS and RCA Records, Penguin Press, and many others. Her artwork is also licensed by several publishers of fine art prints for home decor and corporate environments sold through retail stores worldwide.
Patti lives in Nyack, New York with her jazz musician husband and their hound dog, cats, and polish chickens. Visit her website at pattimollica.com.
