Patrick Wise is a representational painter whose strong emotional response to landscapes, people, and nature are conveyed in his paintings. The beauty of Northern Michigan has influenced Patrick’s work, and the memories of growing up in Petoskey continue to inspire his art. He earned his Master of Arts from Wayne State University, Detroit, and is an award-winning painter as well as a college professor. Patrick won the Gold Medal for the painting, ”Overlook,” at the Contemporary Art Contest, Mackinac Art Museum. Recent juried exhibitions include The Scarab Club in Detroit and Charlevoix Circle of Arts. Patrick was the Juror for the 2017 CTAC Juried Fine Arts Exhibition, and he exhibits both nationally and internationally.
Patrick spent several years employed by the Detroit Institute of Arts, and acted as Curator and Juror for the DIA's education exhibitions from 2010 to 2015. He has led a portrait workshop at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD) in conjunction with Alex Melamid. Patrick’s artwork is in the permanent collection at Children's Hospital of Detroit, in addition to numerous private art collections throughout the U.S. His work is found at WARD Gallery and Crooked Tree Art Center in Petoskey; and Journey North and Olde Sport Club in Harbor Springs.
Patrick currently splits his time between Northern Michigan and the Detroit metropolitan area, and is relocating to the Harbor/Petoskey area in 2018. He continues to be inspired by people and places for his artistic work.
