Artserve MichiganArtServe Michigan continues the tradition of service through education, community arts development, advocacy, information, volunteerism and direct support for arts and cultural activities. While its roots are in services to those who create, teach and appreciate our state's cultural activities, its future is in leveraging new growth -- intellectual, educational, spiritual and economic -- through the arts in Michigan's communities.
The singular role of ArtServe Michigan speaks loudly in support of the critical role the arts, culture and education play in maintaining and improving the quality life of our communities as it brings together many different interests of Michigan's cultural community for development of larger ideals and common interests. The organization assists educators in developing formal arts curriculum; supports individual artists as they create and present their work; recruits and trains volunteers whose leadership skills will strengthen cultural organizations and also translate into greater involvement between the business sector and cultural community.

Michigan Humanities CouncilMichigan Humanities Council unveiled a brand new image -- a new website, newsletter, and information sheet each incorporating a new logo and tagline -- to better reflect its mission. "Bridging Communities and Ideas" is a descriptive phrase for people to remember what the Council is all about. The Council's mission resembles a bridge: connecting resources and finding ways to help communities meet their needs.
"This new look was created to help reflect the Council's strategic plan which emphasizes funding Michigan cultural and heritage programs based on community collaboration," said Scott Hirko, Public Relations Officer for Michigan Humanities Council. "We've integrated this look into a new, user-friendly website with new features and have debuted a newsletter template using this new image." Hirko also noted that a new information sheet about Michigan Humanities Council has been distributed state-wide and is available both on-line and in print format.
The Council's new website (http://michiganhumanities.org) includes the following new features: a grants history archive database (with information and photos of Council funded projects since 1997); legislative news affecting humanities, culture and the arts; a "downloads" area for individuals and organizations to easily access grants applications, guidelines and other graphics; pages about the board's mission and history; and, a newly released 2003 schedule with pages on individual presenters for the award-winning Michigan's Great Outdoors Culture Tour up north this summer.
The graphical design of the new logo resembles a bridge, (inspired by Michigan's own "Mighty Mac,") as well as having the acronym MHC (for Michigan Humanities Council) embedded in the logo. The new colors, with shades of green and blue, reflect the woods and water that are an intricate part of Michigan's geographic and cultural landscape.
Michigan Humanities Council invites the media and the public to view the new website and to comment on the new image. For any comments about the new look, copies of the new information sheet, or any other information about Michigan Humanities Council, please feel free to contact Scott Hirko. 517-372-0029 ext. 25 shirko@michiganhumanities.org.

Frey Foundation The Frey Foundation is a family foundation committed to working together to make a difference in the lives of individuals, families, organizations and communities. Civic leaders in Grand Rapids for decades, Edward and Frances Frey had the original vision for the Frey Foundation. That vision was born of love for their community and commitment to philanthropy. The Foundation was endowed in the late 1980s from their estate. However, it was up to the next generation - David G. Frey, Edward J. Frey, Jr., John M. Frey and Mary Caroline (Twink) Frey - to make their parents' bold vision a reality. Inspired by the same values, this generation embraced the challenge as the Foundation's Board of Trustees. Working together, they created a grantmaking system and established an investment committee to manage the foundation's endowment. Today, the Frey Foundation is one of Michigan's largest family foundations. |
Stafford's Perry Hotel "What's it like at Stafford's Perry Hotel?" Some say it's like a classy European Michigan Hotel, only the service is better. Some say it's like a friends house, only the food is prepared by a chef ~ and somebody else does the dishes. Some say you can't compare it with anything else, It's upbeat ~ and relaxing. Downtown ~ and safe. Sophisticated ~ and casual. Gracious ~ and reasonably priced. |
