Learn to create painterly landscapes in soft pastel that are expressive and filled with light.
Nationally recognized pastellist Barbara Reich will share tips from her many years of plein air
painting to help students take the mystery out of interpreting their own favorite photographs.
Soft pastel techniques and wet applications will be highlighted, including underpainting with
pastel, watercolor, as well as creating extra texture using clear gesso. The importance of design,
color, value, shape, and edges will be reviewed, as well as the best ways to modify what you see
in your photographs. This is a fun and relaxed workshop in which personal explorations are
highly encouraged. Demo, handouts, and lots of individual attention. This workshop is for soft
pastel, not oil pastel. They are not the same. Prior art experience helpful.
