Vocalists and educators, Katherine Ryan and Owen James, will be teaching this Vocal Health Master Class to help inform vocalists how to better take care of their voices in speech and singing. After moving to northern Michigan and receiving many inquiries from singers and teachers about how to take better care of their voices, Katherine recognized the need to share vocal health information outside of her private voice lessons. Katherine and Owen look forward to sharing their knowledge and experience so that individuals are more equipped to maintain their vocal stamina through the busy summer performing season in northern Michigan.  This master class is open to all ages and experience.  There will be opportunities to be a participant in the session and time for Q & A.

More about Katherine Ryan:
After developing vocal nodules on her vocal chords years ago, Katherine went through treatment with leading speech language pathologist, Marci Rosenberg, at the University of Michigan. However, Katherine learned she was not alone in developing a vocal injury. Teachers, public speakers, and professional singers such as Adele, John Mayer, Elton John, Frank Sinatra, Keith Urban, Julie Andrews, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Steven Tyler, among others, have developed vocal injuries as well. To continue learning about vocal health, she sought out more information through Shenandoah University Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM) Vocal Pedagogy Institute. She continued to learn from Marci Rosenberg, voice pathologist and singing voice specialist, Dr. Wendy LeBorgne, among others. Along with teaching voice at CTAC and her private home studio, Katherine is currently taking private lessons with Neil Semer - a prominent vocal coach out of New York City who works with professional Broadway and Opera singers.

More about Owen James:
Vocalist and voice instructor Owen James has nearly 30 years’ performing and teaching experience. While completing his degree in Studio Music and Jazz with Vocal Emphasis at the University of Miami, he studied voice under Dr. Rachel LeBon, a renowned expert in vocal pedagogy. Later, he received intensive coaching from Master Voice Teacher Jane Sharp, to whom he attributes much of his success as a voice teacher. Students of Owen James have gone on to achieve success at the highest levels of music performance and education.
