Watercolor is a fun, fresh, and spontaneous medium and it lends itself to so many styles and techniques. Once you get acquainted with the possibilities of watercolor, it may just become your “go to” medium!
An introductory course in watercolor painting and techniques, this class will teach the very basics of how to approach and use the watercolor medium. In learning how to control the water, the student will learn to control the paint and the effect that is desired. Students will explore the use of different papers, painting techniques, blending, shading, color mixing and mixing from darkest to lightest. Textural effects will be explored as well as learning the importance of value, composition design and color theme.
Students will be encouraged to experiment with different types of papers and brushes along the way. Artists will be using half sheets of hot press and cold press watercolor paper. There will be several still life sets-ups to choose from in the class to complete a finished painting. Students are encouraged to bring a camera to record the still life set-ups for reference.
This is a Level I course. Basic drawing skills recommended.
